Herbs – proven remedy for hair loss

Hair loss is a common problem these days. Various herbs have proven to be beneficial in treating hair loss. Herbs disinfect the scalp, stimulate hair growth, and increase blood circulation, while also being gentle enough on the hair.

hair loss treatment herbsHerbs such as Nettles, Aloe, Birch leaves etc., are excellent skin cleansers that stimulate hair growth. Drinking one tbsp. of Stinging Nettle, Watercress and Birch leaves dissolved in a glass of water, helps in cleansing the blood, which is necessary for hair growth.

Horsetail is an excellent source of silica that helps in keeping hair shiny and strong. Steep two tbsp of horsetail in four ounces of hot water and add to a baby shampoo. This can be used to shampoo. Chamomile is an herb that is excellent for hair growth. Including chamomile in diet, while also using shampoos and conditioners that contain chamomile products stimulates healthy hair growth. Burdock and Catnip are also herbs that help in healthy hair growth. A combination of these herbs can also be used for promoting hair growth.

Rinsing hair with Sage tea and Apple Cider Vinegar, promotes hair growth.

Regular scalp massage with Rosemary, Horsetail and Stinging Nettle helps in hair growth and disinfects scalp and increases blood circulation. Both stinging nettle and Rosemary combats dandruff, one of the primary reasons for hair loss. Drop a handful of rosemary into a pan with water and cover it with a lid. Simmer for ten to fifteen minutes and allow it to cool. Strain the mixture into a jug to which a few drops of Wheatgerm oil is added. This can be used for rinsing hair after washing with a mild shampoo. Finally rinse with tepid water.

Rosemary, Marigold, Arnica and Southernwood are other herbs that are beneficial for preventing hair loss. An infused oil of these herbs can be massaged into the scalp for optimum results. Brahmi and Jatamansi can be mixed in equal proportions, and a teaspoon of the mix could be added to a cup of hot water. This can be consumed twice or thrice a day for relief from stress that contributes hair loss.

The active compounds Phytosterols and free fatty acids present in Saw Palmetto, inhibits the enzyme 5-alpha reductase which leads to androgenetic alopecia, and hence is recommended for hair loss.

Other herbs such as Bhringaraj, Dashamoola, Mulberries, Psoralea seeds and Oyster are also recommended for hair loss.
